Films
Nejc Levstik, a 2014 graduate of the Academy for Theatre, Radio, Film, and Television (UL AGRFT) in Ljubljana, Slovenia, has always been committed to developing his own projects. His filmmaking journey began at thirteen when he started creating his first videos; at the age of seventeen, his short film Metka (2009) was awarded Best Foreign Language Fiction Film at the International Film Festival in Karlovac, Croatia.
His documentary Hočem živeti / I Choose to Live (2014), a poignant exploration of a young girl’s emotional struggles after losing her mother, captivated audiences and raised awareness about mental health issues in adolescents.
Over the past decade, Nejc has collaborated with numerous productions, experimenting with various formats and genres. He co-created and directed two of the most successful TV drama series in Slovenia: Usodno vino / Fateful Wine (2015) and Reka ljubezni / The River of Love (2017).
During the global pandemic, Levstik filmed the documentary Pledge to Science (2020), which gathered the voices of patients, medical experts, and professionals from around the world, highlighting the critical role of science in society.
The film was broadcast on multiple television channels across Central Europe, including the Al Jazeera network. After that, Nejc traveled to Medellín, Colombia, to direct the short documentary Might Be Anything (2023), picturing the story of the global science journalism community (World Federation of Science Journalists), which was completed in 2023.
In parallel, Nejc has been developing two long-term projects: Kasting / Casting (2016-), a documentary that explores child development, focusing on the physical, emotional, social, and intellectual growth from infancy to adulthood, and Sasho (2023-), which follows the life of a young medical student who earned international attention by designing a new model of a syringe and is now working on hormone-dependent cancer research, with the potential for revolutionary advancements in breast and uterine cancer treatment.
Nejc has started the pre-production of his first feature film, The Man Who Doesn’t Exist, which is expected to start filming in 2025.
Shows
Alongside his passion for filmmaking, Nejc has built a successful career in live television and large-scale show production. He has directed various multi-camera formats and prime-time broadcasts, which led to the Eurovision Song Contest. As part of the Slovenian delegation, he successfully guided the team to the finals on three occasions. He also directed five national Eurovision selection shows, Ema (2016-2022), all broadcast live on national television.
Nejc made his mark with the hit celebrity roast specials series Na žaru / On the Roast (2017), which garnered Slovenia’s second-highest television rating in history. His passion for creating and directing monumental live performances led him to projects such as The Magic Tour (2019), a concert special featuring Severina (Dallas Records), the most popular female singer in the Balkan region.
In the years that followed, Nejc co-created and directed Rebel With a Cello Tour (2022), starring world-renowned cellist Hauser (Sony Masterworks), with over 130 performances and 500,000 viewers across the globe; and The Ultimate Show, a musical spectacle featuring Filipino sensation Marcelito Pomoy (BRICS Entertainment), the grand winner of Pilipinas Got Talent, known for his extraordinary ability to sing in both male and female voices, who also reached the finals in America’s Got Talent: The Champions.
Recent highlights of Nejc’s work include directing the European Youth Olympic Festival Opening Ceremony (2023), which was broadcast in 48 countries, and high-profile productions like the arena comedy special Slovenska Muska / Slovenian Music (2024).
